I love the obsession that people have with change at the beginning of every year.
I just wish that it would last.
Could you imagine what it would be like if everyday,
everyone was committed to creating a better self?
But we get overwhelmed with what we "should" be doing,
and it's easy to just let everything slip all-together.
For example, you're setting your New Year's resolutions,
and you set a goal of losing 50 pounds, going to the gym 6 days a week,
and eating no carbs.
The problem is that you currently go to the gym 0 days a week, love carbs,
and feel so completely overwhelmed with your goal
that after 1 week you've lost hope and feel like you're a failure.
Change is not an event. It's a process.
A process of doing little things, a step at a time, until they become who you are.
I love goals. I love reaching them even more. And I love helping others do the same.
There's going to be big changes at The Shine Project this year,
that will be happening little by little,
and you're going to see me squirm a little as I completely
step out of my comfort zone.
So what do you say? Let's go through change this year together.
To start, I'm bringing back weekly challenges.
I realized that they were the focus behind my blog,
and I want us all to encourage each other.
Every Monday, I will post a new challenge.
Something that's going to help you become a better YOU.
It will help you realize that you have a fight within you
that you didn't even know was there.
Then, on Fridays, you'll post on your blog how the challenge went,
thoughts on it, etc...and link it back to my blog.
We're all here to motivate each other along our growing pains of change.
So! Your challenge to kick off the new year is simple.
Answer this question,
"If I could change one thing in the world, what would it be?"
Write down the first thing that comes to mind.
Then make a list of ways that YOU can help make that change.
Make it as simple as possible.
I'm excited to see your thoughts on Friday.
And I even have a little surprise for you...
Happy 2012...Let's be our best selves.

Love your outfit. I am so glad you are bringing back weekly challenges, I missed them! =D
Just in the short time I have known you- I have been inspired- I'm excited for the weekly challenges! Thanks for being you Ash!
this is great. i hope i can do this with you. every year i start off with things in mind that i want to change but you've just made me realize that i never set goals... so the progress towards change has no end in sight and i become disillusioned until i finally forget about my resolutions for change.
i am looking forward to your challenges to keep me on my toes! bring it on!
Your super model gorgeous! LOVE this reminder. THAT top is to die for xoxo
I love the third picture you have, it seems more like you.
Change is for sure a slow process, but as long as you continue with it, things will happen.
I can't wait to see what is up your sleeve. I have already answered this question, and I can't wait to share it with you.
Love J and A

HOORAY! I've missed the weekly challenges! :) I was going to ask if you were going to start doing them again, and now I don't have to.
This post is beautiful and really helped me remember that it's baby steps. Not all at once change that makes the difference. :)
That top is absolutely AMAZING! I'm incredibly jealous. haha!
LOOOOOOOVE THIS!
Here's how I feel about New Years Resolutions: Enough already with the guilt-ridden, I'm-so-fat, I'm-so-lazy, I-must-fix-my-life New Years Resolutions. I'm over it! They don't help. There is nothing wrong with you. You're fine. Sure, pick goals. Do it. You're capable. But no more beating yourself up. The phrase is not 'have a guilty new year'. Take a breath. See the good in yourself. If you must make a resolution, start with those that help you and others. Because the biggest word in Happy New Year should be HAPPY. Ok, now I need to go write more on my blog about this. lol. Love you Ash. You look beautiful, as always. Love love love your top. Hope your new years eve was perfect!

you are right on!
the word that popped into my head is schools.
Schools have been the hardest most frustrating part of being a parent.
Something is just not working in America's schools.
Just watched "waiting for superman."
wow.
Wow, you look beautiful in these pictures! They are stunning! Change is good. I love your advice that true change is found only in the little things. Wise lady!
