But here's the picture that really made my weekend worth living:
For our date on Saturday night, Mike and I put a couple of kits together for homeless people that we knew we'd inevitably be passing while driving downtown. It was 110 on Saturday, which means hundreds if not thousands of homeless people in downtown Phoenix alone were stuck outside with no escape from the heat. I can't even imagine. So we loaded up some water bottles and snacks into sacks and went on our journey to give some love. Every person we gave the bags to were beat red, and were so excited for just a drink of water. It's so easy to keep an extra water bottle or snack in the car to give to someone you pass on the street corner who needs something to eat. Here's the thing about giving love, the more you give, the more you get. I'm not quite sure where all the love you get comes from, but it comes. I had love for the man in the picture above, whom I had never met before... all because I served him. It fills you up. It makes you feel like your existence in that moment has a bigger purpose. Living with a purpose to make other people feel love brings depth and perspective to life that can't be found anywhere else.
Give love.
Get love.
Shine on.

I LOVE this. Thank you for sharing. I truly believe that :)
You are absolutely right. Thank you for sharing this, and reminding us that we can take little steps to help. I will have to remember this next time I head downtown.
So glad you shared this! You are so right!

you are amazing! and tell Mike we think he's amazing too. :) In college I would always share my foot long subway sandwiches with the stranger on the street (why the heck else would they make foot longs?) ... so I adore this post more than you know.
@tiff- that is the cutest story i've ever heard..
wow! this is an inspiring post. i live in jersey city, and i'm in NYC a lot, and see homeless people A LOT. i always carry around my own water bottle with me, but now i feel like i need to bring around extras to hand out and not feel greedy that i am able to hydrate in this heat wave we are supposed to be getting!!
cheers.
You are such an inspiring and beautiful person. Inside and out.
That's great. So inspiring!

Oh wow I love this, what a perfect message.
Wow, that is such an awesome idea! Growing up in Michigan, the concern was always when it got so freezing cold in the winter and homeless people were outside but I never thought about how it could be just as miserable/dangerous in the heat! Giving out water bottles is such a simple yet incredible way to show kindness...I love reading your blog, you're really an inspiration! xoxo
Wow, I love that idea. I love that you guys did that. :)

I love what you said about giving to others and showing love. And that is such a great idea!! Maybe sometime you could partway freeze them so they are super cold for them? I can only imagine how appreciative they were of people noticing them! Good post!
I have always wanted to go and do this as a project. I would honestly love to come with you guys on a non date night one when if you'll let me! Perhaps you could even come speak in my new ward for FHE :)
