I wish I had regular photos, but I didn't want to look like the weird new girl who was obsessed with everything.... So I refrained. I have no idea how I was put on the cool kids list to be invited to this party, but this weekend I attended a Phx Fashion Week kick-off party at a really cool studio downtown. I called my mom and said, "Mom, I'm going to be surrounded by models, photographers, designers, buyers, VIP people who have been doing fashion forever... I have no idea what to wear...". Her response, "you need to definitely wear something sleek and sexy. Find something tight fitting. Don't dress all cutesy and foo-foo like you usually do, this is not the place for that." So I called in my rockstar bff Tiffani to pull out the big guns, and badda-bing.
I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I felt completely out of my comfort zone that night. But I went with a goal; to find people who I could tell the Threads story to, so they could fall in love with our purpose and perhaps help guide us to where we need to go. I had no idea who anyone there was, but I knew they all were big deals in the fashion industry. I took my Shine Rep Kimmy with me, and we decided that we didn't need to tell our story to the 400 people there, just the ones who would be the most important.
I might go into detail at a different time, but I will tell you that the head director for Phoenix Fashion Week, and his successful board of directors not only heard our story about Threads, but fell in love with it. I couldn't believe it. Well, I could, because I know that Threads is something special. But it was one of those moments where you sit and think, wow, it's really happening.
This is such a fun journey and I'm so grateful that you all support me and our team of kids along the way. We couldn't do it without you. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but I keep learning when you put yourself out there, good things happen.
So put yourself out there. Start with where you are right now, and doing a little extra this week to move in the direction you want to go. It's scary as heck, I'll be the first one to tell you. But man, I can't imagine living life any other way.
PS: I'm headed to LA tomorrow night. If you want to see me on camera, go to filmon.com on Tuesday morning from 10-12 am, and watch my interview about Threads! It will be live from LA!
Shine on.
